What is lactulose and what is it for?

Lactulose is a type of sugar that is not absorbed by our bodies. When it enters the intestine, it attracts more water to the stool, making it softer and larger. This helps stimulate bowel movement, making it easier to evacuate. This type of laxative, unlike other types, does not irritate the intestinal wall. It is mainly used to treat constipation.

How does Colact® work in the body?

The enlarged and softened fecal matter favors intestinal transit. The effects will be seen after consecutive use for up to four days, associated with a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle habits.

What is the best time to use Colact®?

Generally, in the morning or at night, but there is no pre-established time.

Does Colact® contain sugar?

Yes, lactulose is a sugar (disaccharide) formed by two molecules, one molecule of galactose and one of fructose. The quantity is 10 g of lactulose and 3.7 g of sugars.

Can Colact (R) be used by diabetics?

The use of lactulose can alter blood glucose control, so it is important to seek medical advice before using it.
